The Mid-Atlantic Patient Safety Organization (MAPSO), a component of the Maryland Patient Safety Center (MPSC), exists to help healthcare providers deliver the safest, highest-quality care possible. As a federally listed Patient Safety Organization (PSO) with the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) (PSO Number: P0024), MAPSO creates a secure, collaborative environment where providers can share data, learn from patient safety events, and implement evidence-based solutions to prevent avoidable harm.
Participation in MAPSO is complimentary for Mid-Atlantic Patient Safety Center members, with a participation agreement. Fees apply to non-members. Please contact us for more information.

What is a PSO?
The Patient Safety and Quality Improvement Act of 2005 authorized the creation of PSOs in response to the 1999 Institute of Medicine report that called for significant improvements in healthcare safety and quality.
PSOs:
-
Provide a confidential and non-punitive space for healthcare organizations and clinicians to report patient safety events
-
Collect and analyze data to identify patterns and risks
-
Recommend best practices to improve patient outcomes and reduce harm
MAPSO partners with its member organizations to foster a culture of safety and accelerate system-wide learning that protects patients and supports providers.
