Medication Safety Is Patient Safety

Medication safety has long been a priority area of focus for MPSC, bringing together a strong community of professionals from across the region to share expertise, address common challenges, and advance safer medication practices.

In 2027, we are building on that foundation by integrating medication safety programming into the Mid-Atlantic Patient Safety Conference as a dedicated Medication Safety Track.

This evolution reflects an important principle: medication safety leaders should have a seat at the table in broader patient safety conversations, and medication safety insights should reach beyond those who work specifically in medication safety. Many of the challenges that contribute to medication-related harm—including communication, technology, human factors, workflow, culture, and system design—extend across disciplines and require collaboration within, between, and outside of healthcare organizations.

The Medication Safety Track will preserve focused opportunities to explore medication safety priorities while connecting that work to the larger patient safety ecosystem. Medication safety professionals will have opportunities to learn from and engage with a broader community of safety leaders, clinicians, patients and families, and other partners—and conference attendees from across disciplines will gain greater exposure to medication safety challenges and solutions.
